Greene County residents are troubled by the high cost of health care. Making health care more affordable is one of the top three priorities for residents of the county.
This issue hits close to home for the nearly three in ten Greene County households that include at least one person who has not had uninterrupted health insurance coverage and, therefore, has experienced a gap in that insurance for at least some time over the course of the last year. 16% of all households have at least one member who is presently without insurance. In fact, Greene County has one of the highest rates of households without current insurance in the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Many Greene County households with children are also struggling to maintain coverage for their children. The county is home to the greatest proportion of children without current or continuous coverage in the Mid-Hudson region. 23% of Greene County households have at least one child who has experienced a gap in coverage over the past year, and 12% of county households include a child who is not currently insured.
