Worry over health care costs has risen over the past five years, and making health care more affordable is one of the top three priorities for residents of the county.
This issue hits close to home for many households in Putnam County. While the rate of uninsured households is low in comparison to the rest of the Mid-Hudson region, the challenge of maintaining continuous health insurance coverage is felt by a considerable proportion of Putnam County households. Nearly one in six households has a member who has not had continuous health insurance coverage and, therefore, has experienced a gap in that coverage at some point in the past year. 7% of all households have at least one member who is currently uninsured.
Many children in Putnam County lack health care coverage. Nearly one in ten households with children has at least one child who has experienced a gap in coverage over the past year, and 5% of households include a child who is not currently insured.
